A trip to an exotic holiday vacation sounds fun, but going to the JFK airport isn’t exactly going to be a walk in the park. Parking can be problematic if you’re driving to the airport, but at least you can take advantage of discount options for JFK airport parking in New York.
When you get there, you’ll realize that it’s one of the busiest airports in the whole country. Sometimes flights are delayed, and you will have to wait. That’s especially frustrating when the complimentary Wi-Fi is only for half an hour!
Lucky for you, it’s still New York. This means you’ll get quite a few excellent dining establishments where you can cool your heels while you dine splendidly.
Dining Establishments
You can head on out to terminals 4 and 5, where you can get some of the more popular restaurants in the JFK airport. Terminal 4 has a sit-down dining experience for you at Marcus Samuelsson’s Uptown Brassiere. You can also visit the iconic New York City dining establishments like Shake Shack or Blue Smoke on the Road.
If you want something a bit different, Terminal 4 also has Caviar House & and Prunier. That’s certainly different from standard airport food. You can even get a nice airport sushi meal at Deep Blue Sushi, which has long been a favorite Terminal 5 restaurant for frequent fliers. If you’re in the mood for tapas, there’s the unique Piquillo restaurant. If you’re looking for a modern steakhouse, there’s 5ive Steak. Pizza lovers should head on out to AeroNuova.
Some of the other terminals at JFK also offer alternative dining establishments. Get to terminal 7, and there you’ll find Todd English’s Bonfire Restaurant. This is also the terminal where you can enjoy the legendary Wolfgang Puck Gourmet Express.
If you’re in the mood for some fine French cuisine, you can enjoy the dishes prepared by noted NYC chef Andrew Carmellini. Just head on out to Croque Madame located in terminal 2. If you’re hankering for some Italian dishes instead, then you can find the terminal’s Due Amici.
Where to Drink
What if you’re not really in the mood to eat, and you just want a drink instead? That’s not really a problem at the JFK airport. Of course, you can always visit the restaurants we’ve already mentioned, as a fair number of them will have beer and wine to offer. Visit the Uptown Brasserie, and you can try the Airmail cocktail. The tapas at Piquillo will have lots of wine options to wash it down with.
There are plenty of other bars there too. Those who prefer beer will certainly appreciate the BKLYN Beer Garden in terminal 2. This place features plenty of beer that literally came from New York. Terminal 4 is where you ought to head on out to if you’re looking for a fully stocked bar at JFK. Here you’ll find The Palm and Tigin’s Irish Pub along with Buffalo Wild Wings.
What if you’re really partial to wine instead? Since this is an NYC airport, you’re covered. You can easily find a nice place for vino depending on the terminal you’re in. if you’re in terminal 1, go to Idlewild Wine Bar. Those in terminal 4 should find Le Grand Comptoir. You can visit Bar Veloce in terminal 5, along with Vino Volo in terminal 8.
Frequent flyers shouldn’t really mind waiting for all that much since JFK has plenty of airline lounges for frequent flyers. American Airlines, Delta, Korean Air, Virgin Atlantic, and Untied all have their own airline lounges.
Don’t worry if you’re not really loyal to a particular airline, as JFK also has several lounges for you. The Airspace Lounge is available for just $25, and for $50 you can go to the Wingtips Lounge. Waiting can be bothersome, but at JFK it doesn’t have to be a terrible experience at all.
