Your gallbladder might not be a focus of much of your attention unless you’re experiencing problems with it.

It’s one of those organs that you probably don’t give a lot of thought to, but it’s important, and if something goes wrong, it can go really wrong quickly.

The gallbladder is attached to your liver, and it stores bile so your body can digest the fats that you eat. While your liver creates the bile, the gallbladder plays an essential role in the storage, and without it functioning properly you can experience gallstones, as well as rarer issues such as gallbladder cancer and pancreatitis.

Having enough calcium in your diet is imperative for your gallbladder, but if you’re getting it all from dairy, it can be a bit of a problem because dairy is high in fat including saturated fat.

Remember calcium can be found in other sources besides dairy including dark leafy vegetables.

Many plant-based kinds of milk also include added calcium.

Vitamin C

People who consume diets rich in Vitamin C appear to have fewer problems related to their gallbladder, and Vitamin C is contained in many fresh fruits and vegetables.

Finally, if you want to enjoy coffee and alcohol, that’s okay and can also even be somewhat good for your gallbladder, as long as it’s in moderation. A cup of coffee and a glass of wine a day can provide some health benefits according to current research.
