Every new year, people all around the world start with positive fitness goals in which they eagerly follow up on by heading to their local fitness center and nibbling on celery sticks. However, these goals often unravel just after a couple of weeks pushing many back into their old ways. With that being said, it is no wonder why recent studies support that only a shocking five percent of adults actually participate in 30 minutes of activity each day. The problem for many people is that exercise is extremely repetitive and, in most cases, quite boring – but it doesn’t have to be!
We live in a world today with a huge focus on fitness. With that being said, there are a ton of ways to make exercise more enjoyable, whether you have 5 hours to spend in the gym or five minutes during a quick lunch break. If you are interested in learning how to bring the pep back in your step when you exercise, keep reading. Here are 4 ways to make work outs fun.
Find an exercise buddy
What better way to torture yourself with challenging exercise than bringing a buddy along to experience it with you! If you find that you are coming up with every single possible excuse in the book to avoid exercising after work or if you struggle to get out of bed in the morning to crush a pre-work gym sesh – get yourself a gym partner. A recent study that was conducted by the Department of Kinesiology at Indiana University found that partners who exercise separately, had a 43% dropout rate, compared to those who exercised together, who only had a 6.3% dropout rate. To make your work out more fun and to keep yourself accountable, find an exercise buddy.
Join a Class
When many people think about working out, visions of beefed-up meat heads grunting and sweating on every single piece of equipment swirl in their heads, which is less than desirable to say the least. Break away from your traditional gym routine and try something totally new – join a class! Whether it is dance, boxing, yoga, pilates, spinning, Zumba or even bouldering for an example, changing up your routine is new and exciting. In addition, you will meet friends along the way to help support you on your fitness journey, keeping you motivated to stay on track.
Another fun way to keep your workouts enjoyable is simply by giving yourself a reward in return for your hard work and dedication to reach your fitness goals. Try putting a dollar or two in a jar for every work out that you complete and each month, use this money to treat yourself. Whether it is a new pair of designer shoes or a delicious sugary cheat meal, your hard work should be rewarded. This will help to ensure that you never miss a workout, keeping your eye on the prize!
Pump up the Jams
Exercising in silence can be a bit or a bore to say the least. To make exercise more fun, fill your playlist with energetic and upbeat tunes that would make it difficult for anyone to not groove to the beat. Everybody is unique in their own way and has different tastes. Find what music works best for you to help keep you pushing through a challenging workout.
Exercise does not have to be boring. If you have found yourself stuck in a dull exercise routine and have been asking, “how to have fun while working out?” try one of our four suggestions listed above.
